Comprehension Strategy Practice

Hello Ocean by Pam Munoz Ryan

At the ocean with her 5 senses!

Visualize what the character is seeing
Hear the wind blowing at the ocean
Feel the salty water in your fingers
Use clues in pictures to understand a word
Connections are being made of thinking and accessing prior knowledge of the ocean

I notice that I connected this to my unit plan I am doing on the 5 senses and how she experienced all 5 of the senses so vividly at her time at the beach. I for sure used making connections the most during listening to the reading. I connected to times when I went to the beach and felt the sun shining on my face. Her unique way of making us think about the senses made me think of other things that I feel, hear, smell, taste, and see when I am at the beach besides the ones that she talked about in the book.
